NEW ORLEANS — A number of NC public schools have been delayed in their graduation dates as part of the state’s budget shortfall.

New Orleans Public Schools officials say the district has been in contact with the state to help them meet their graduation date, but they say they’re waiting on the state.

The district announced Monday that it would delay its graduation date for the first time since the recession, and said that it will begin its year-round graduation programs by Sept. 20.

New York State Superintendent of Schools Diane Ravitch said that a similar plan to delay the graduation date had been in place for years.

Ravitch said she was in contact last week with the NC School Boards Association, which said that they were waiting for the state budget to be completed before they would begin implementing the plan.

The state budget is due next week.
