But you can also apply for one for free through the Buffalo Public Libraries, which are located at the following locations: The Library of Buffalo Public Library at St. Francis Xavier University and in the West End of Buffalo, the Buffalo Library and Information Center, and the West Buffalo Public library.

As of 2018, there are approximately 1.1 million public library cards in circulation.

The Buffalo public library card can be used for all public libraries, including the Buffalo State College, the State College of Buffalo University, the University of Buffalo Health System, the New Buffalo Public Health Center, the Health Sciences Center of Buffalo and the Buffalo Niagara Medical Center.

The card can also be used to access libraries and services at Buffalo State University, Buffalo Niagara University, and other public and private institutions, including many colleges and universities.

In order to apply, you must have a valid Buffalo Public Cards account.
